ROOF TRUSS REPAIR - SHUTTERED

Back

An ex-school in Sheffield, being converted for the entertainment industry. Several decorative roof trusses were decayed at their wall bearing. We cut them back to sound timber and inserted high tensile steel bars in resin.

Shuttering was formed around the rods in the principal rafter, with the false tie renewed in solid timber, linked to the rafter with resin bonded rods. Resin was poured into the shutter and once set, the timber was final planed to match the original decorative features.

Once decorated, it is difficult to tell that a repair was ever undertaken.

Sometimes we use bands of flexible Polystal rods instead of steel bars.

This is a decayed valley purlin, repaired using the resin method, shuttered in pine to match the existing timber, and undertaken without disturbing the roof.
