REPAIRING AN EXTREMELY DECAYED ROOF

Back

This was once a school, vacated and left empty before being
occupied by a community group. It then suffered from
vandalism and fire, again remaining empty for several years.
We first advised on it in 1983, and then again another three
times, all for different interested parties, none of whom
knew of our previous involvement.
Eventually in 2000, we were awarded the remedial damp
and timber repair work, fourth time lucky 17 years on!
Wet and Dry Rot decay in roof timbers was extensive,
with wall plates, rafters and trusses weakened.
We used a combination of Rotafix Timber Resin Splice repairs
and conventional timber replacement involving BAT splice plates.
Timber Resin Splice, TRS, repairing truss foot.
Decayed posts, plates and rafters were replaced in new timber,
as were arched braces shown in last photograph.
The building is now a nursery for pre-school children.

New plaster was not allowed to touch the drying walls, which were damp proofed, sand blasted internally and chemically cleaned externally.
